The message of the cross is very simple. It can be summed up from that very familiar passage of scripture found in St. John chapter 3 and verse 16. It reads:
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”(John 3:16 KJV)
How does this verse translate into a 21st century message?…
God, dearly, loved the world that He did not want to see it perish into eternal damnation. So He gave up His only Human-born Son to be sacrificed to pay for the sins of the entire world. Which meant that anyone that would dare to believe that His only Son paid the price for their sins would not perish in Hell but would receive eternal life in Heaven.
The message of the cross is deep and has multiple meanings but overall it is a simple message about God’s love and mercy toward the whole of the human race. God realized that people cannot save themselves, but they can have faith in Him to save them.
This is one attribute that all humans beings possess whether they realize it or not:
We have FAITH!
We can steer our faith in any direction that we choose to. We can steer our faith toward people, toward organizations, toward governments, or toward Almighty God. It is our choice as to where we place our faith.
We can even choose to partially believe in God and partially believe in some man-made deity. Or to partially believe in God’s ability to save us and partially believe in our own ability to make ourselves good enough. Yes, we can choose to compromise our faith.
But God wants all of our faith and trust to be placed exclusively in Him and Him alone. When this happens a relationship of fellowship can develop between ourselves and God. The work of the cross serves as the bridge that connects us with God.
The blood shed on the cross is still precious and alive and available to be applied on us. We can receive the applied blood by faith. Furthermore, we can plead that blood by faith.
In short, our faith in Jesus Christ and His saving work on the cross combined with God loving mercy and undeserved favor can and will save and deliver us from evil. A-men
Give Jesus your heart today. Ask Him in your own words to save you. Ask Him to forgive your sins and to cleanse you from all sin by the washing of His blood. Then, accept His salvation today. Praise God!
