In light of the awful tragedy in Newtown, CT. I believe that we need to focus on our hopes: first, that Jesus loves us and second to one day see a future free of violence. The Bible expressly teaches that there will come a day on planet Earth where we study war no more (Isaiah 2:4).
To give us a little background on Isaiah chapter two, it deals with the coming age where the Messiah will reign and rule over the whole planet and where evil, in all of its manifestations, will cease to exist.
Yes, there will be nations, cities, and towns, but all will be ultimately governed by Jesus Christ, Himself. Yes, the will be great advancement in technology and people will have free wills, but they will no longer be influenced by evil so there will be no temptation to sin. Mankind will finally know what it was like in the Garden of Eden before Adam and Eve sinned.
We will experience life even as it is now except without the feuding and fighting and cheating. We will study war no more and violence will cease to exist.
Isaiah chapter and verse four say,
“And He will judge between the nations, And will render decisions for many peoples; And they will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, And never again will they learn war.”
The problem with today’s society is that we study or train for war against other people even when we don’t recognize it. We watch violent movies where we get sucked into the plot and start cheering for the hero/heroin of the movie to take-out the bad guys. We are numbed to violence by video games and violent competitive sports. These mediums alone, or teaching us war.
Those of us who have accepted Jesus in our hearts have become partakers in the same violent entertainment as those who are not saved. Most of us are no different; and we must learn to recognize this and repent daily in our time with God or we will commit the same violent acts as those in the world. Then, if we don’t repent in time, we will go to the same Hell as those who have not accepted Jesus Christ as Savior.
We are in the last days. I don’t know how long it will be, but Jesus Is Coming. It might be 1 year or 20 years or even 50 years, but the world is in a Last Days upheaval. We see it in the climate, we see it in the economy and politics. We especially see it in the cruelty of the violence in our communities.
People we must get ready for the return of Christ!
Many scoff at the notion of Christ’s soon return but forget that the Bible taught this mindset to the church as a way of staying in a state of readiness for whenever we meet God. Because Jesus may not come tomorrow but we may die and meet Him tomorrow so for some individuals, it will be like the same thing.
If we are in a mindset of seeing our Savior return soon we be:
- quick to forgive others so we will be forgiven of our sins as Jesus taught.
- quick to turn away and repent of sins.
- and quick to treat and love others the way we want to be treated and loved.
I use to not think this was that relevant but I understand this now and I am ready to get in the mindset: GET READY FOR JESUS IS COMING SOON!
