Another Man

free-christian-wallpaper-downloads-13In I Samuel 10:6 it says,

“And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.”(King James Version Bible {KJV})

The great Prophet Samuel and last Judge of the ancient nation of Israel was on assignment from God. He was to anoint a king over the nation of Israel. Up to that time, ancient Israel had no king only judges because God was considered to be the King over Israel. The Israelites, however, looked around enviously at their neighbors in other nations and how their kings built and defended their fortified cities. The grass, if you will, looked greener on the other side of the fence, as the old saying goes, and they wanted the same thing.

They had rejected the imperfect leadership of the judges, who, in the past had defended them from the invasions of their enemies and who acted as earthly leaders of the nation. There had, in fact, been imperfect leaders because there was corruption and bribery, and worse yet, idolatry by some of the judges or by the persons they had appointed to lead in their place when they were old and stricken in age (as was the case with Samuel who, himself was righteous but his sons were corrupt). And the Israelites wanted a change, they wanted to be able to brag about the splendor and royalty of their new kingdom as other nations had.

Therefore, God told Samuel, who felt sad and rejected, not to take it personally, but that the people had not rejected him but they had rejected God to be King over them (I Samuel 8:1-9). God, then instructed Samuel to find the man that He had chosen and anoint him King over Israel. When Samuel found Saul, the man chosen by God, he anointed him with oil and this is where our main text comes in. The Prophet Samuel began to prophesy to Saul about the things he would  see on his upcoming journey and explained to him that the Spirit of God would come powerfully upon him and once that occurs Saul would become another man.

Everything that Samuel had prophesied to Saul came to pass and it was at a place known as the ‘hill of God,’ where the Spirit of the Lord swept over Saul, mightily, and he prophesied with the prophets and became another man (I Samuel 10: 5-12). And this is what will happen to any man or a women when the Holy Spirit over-shadows and fills them, they become a new person in Christ Jesus.

How Does The Spirit Of God Affect Us Today?

Jesus made it possible with His vicarious death on the cross that everybody, regardless of their background, who believes in His sacrifice for their sins and confesses Him with their mouths will have the Spirit of The Lord or the Holy Spirit come to live inside of them and make them a new person or another man or woman in Christ Jesus. The Apostle Paul explained it this way as found in 2 Corinthians 5:17,

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”(KJV)

Each person who accepts Christ Jesus into their lives and becomes saved, receive a measure of the Holy Spirit (also known as the Spirit of God or the Holy Ghost). Who is to indwell them and empower them to become sons and daughters of God. Furthermore, it is in God’s perfect will for the Christian believer to become filled to overflowing with the Spirit of God with the evidence of speaking in a language that is not previously known to them called speaking in other tongues (Acts 2, Acts 19:6, and Mark 16:17).

As we can see from I Samuel chapters 9 and 10, Saul was quite shy and unassuming until the Spirit of the Lord came strongly upon him. Then, he became another man or a different man because of the special anointing of the Spirit of God that was upon him. Therefore, we can see that if a person is going to lead any effort for God, be it in the church or in the world, they must be filled and led by the Spirit of God.

How Does The In-filling Of The Holy Spirit Change A person?

The Holy Spirit, as Jesus proclaimed to His disciples before He miraculously ascended into Heaven, will come upon us and empower us to be witnesses for Christ (Acts 1:8). Furthermore, He gives the power that enables us to carry out the assignments that He has given us for our lives. This gives each believer the very gifts of the Spirit that they need to succeed. In this case, Saul needed to be a military and political leader, so after the Spirit fell mightily upon him, he was given the warrior anointing for victory in battle and the kingly anointing to lead the nation of Israel.

After we get saved we can ask for the gifts of the Spirit as God will, according to James 1:5,

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”(KJV)

Then, we find in Matthew 7:11, where Jesus states it more clearly when He says,

“If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?”(KJV)

Proving the fact that all we have to do is ask of God in the name of Jesus and He will give us the gifts we need to carry out the work of Christ which includes the power to fellowship and worship God in Spirit and in truth. This is how we are changed into another man and this how we can become a new creature in Christ Jesus, by the Spirit of God coming mightily upon us. Its Him and not us, its His power and not our brilliance, its His capability and not our ability, its His gifts and not our might.

If we don’t understand the process of empowerment, at least understand this fact:  Its Him, Its Him, Its Him Alone!  The Devil gives artificial power, but Jesus, Who has All Power, gives real power. The Devil heals disease by replacing one sickness with another, whereas when Jesus heals He heals to the uttermost and sets men completely free. This is why we must surrender our lives to Christ and allow the Spirit of God to change us into another man.      A-men
