It is interesting how that the very “…stone that the builders rejected has become the corner stone.”(Psalm 118:22 English Standard Version) This is the rejected stone that becomes the most honored stone of all. We discover in Acts 4:11 that Jesus is the Cornerstone of Psalm 118:22 and the builders were the religious leaders and community leaders that rejected Jesus and had Him crucified. Yes, the Master was the Rejected Stone but He overcame rejection to become the Cornerstone.
What Does This Have To Do With the Church?
Many of us in the church have experienced rejection by important people in our lives or in our community or even in our church. We need to understand that this is not such a bad thing. It comes with the territory of being a follower of Christ. Furthermore, we are in good company with Jesus, our Master; and with His help we, too, can become over comers to the glory of God.
What Is A Cornerstone, Anyway?
A cornerstone (according to wikipedia) originally was the first stone set in a masonry foundation. It is said that all of the other stones were to be set in reference to this stone, thereby determining the position of all other stones. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornerstone). Listen and learn: the rejected stone has a special place in the construction process as we have a special place in the world we live in. Jesus said, “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid (Matthew 5:14). The Holy Spirit within each of us causes us to be a light in a dark world. And, if you have ever noticed, it is hard to hide a light. You become a stand-out and stand-outs universally get rejected at some time or the other. Yet, it is the special gifts, the talents, and the anointing of the stand-outs that causes them to do great things for their families, societies, and world. This is what a cornerstone is for.
That is why Jesus said in Matthew 5:11, “Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake”(KJV). He continues in verse 12 saying, “Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets who were before you.”(KJV)
God knows the enemy of your soul is going to go after you with both barrels ready to destroy you. Therefore, He wants you to know that, first of all, you are not alone, many who profess and live for Christ Jesus are in the same boat or the same condition that you are. Secondly, you are in the greatest company of all, because not only are you experiencing what the great prophets of old went through, but you are experiencing what the Savior, Himself, Jesus Christ went through and it is a privilege to be in His company.
Over time, the cornerstone became the ceremonial masonry stone or replica that is set in a prominent position on the outside of the building with an inscription on the stone indicating the construction dates of the building and the name of the architect, builder, and other important names. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornerstone). Listen and learn: now we see the once rejected stone is placed in the most honored position of all and, as long as the building will stand, it carries the name of the architect, the builder and other important names that will be read by many. Therefore, when we as followers of Christ are rejected by the builders, in time God uses the gifts and anointing placed within us to carry Heaven’s message and reveal to the world the name the of our great Architect-Jesus Christ, and our great Builder- The Holy Spirit, and the Head of the God-Head The Father God. Praise God, Hallelujah to His name!
Those of us going through the rejection process may not see it now but in eternality (which is God’s forever) we will see it and be very thankful to God that we were counted among the real stars who will shine forever. A-men
