The Attributes Of God-His Mercy

Let us deal today with one of the attributes of God-His mercy. God is a God Who is full of mercy towards us. In fact, as the Bible says, “…His mercy is new every morning.”(Lam. 3:22-23). How is mercy defined: it is compassion especially from someone in authority. God’s mercy is great, many times, beyond our understanding.

Yes, we can understand, at least somewhat, His mercy toward us as individuals. Why, because we usually think we are somehow a more worthy person than others that we know. Now, those other sinners, however, are a different story altogether. How is it that God shows mercy toward those wicked and sinful people?

The Truth is We Are All Sinful And Wicked Before God Without Jesus In Our Hearts!

It is God’s loving mercy that causes Him to look beyond our faults and failures and see our needs. It is God’s mercy that persuades Him hold back His judgment of destruction, and give us one more chance. Yes, it is God’s mercy that we are not destroyed, but those of us who have placed our faith in Jesus Christ are redeemed, instead!

Well, let us consider the ways that God shows His mercy toward us:

  • He sent His only begotten son to be a sacrifice to take away the sins of the world, thereby allowing us to be saved from sin and not lost for eternality-Ephesians 2:4 and 5 says,(4) “But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, (5)”even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Chris (by grace you have been saved.”(NASB)                                                                                     I Peter 1:3 says, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”(NASB)
  • Although, we still sin, He does not destroy us as we deserve. Consider Lamentations 3:22,  “It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.”(KJV)
  • He enables us to experience at least some joy, peace, and happiness even while we live in an hate-filled society. “Every good gift and perfect gift come down from above, and cometh down from the Father of Lights, with Whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.(James 1:17 KJV)
  • His mercy allows us to come back to Him even when we have turned our back on Him. And still He accepts us over and over again. This is the mercy of God.
Therefore, the attributes of God-His mercy is a vital part of Who God is. And I am grateful for it. This is the characteristic of God that allows God to accept us for who we are and not for what we have done.\
Accept God’s mercy today in the form of Jesus Christ:
-Ask Him, like He is standing right before you, to have mercy on you, forgive your sins and cleanse you from all unrighteousness
-Tell Him that you want Him to live inside of you. He will do it for you. A-men

About newc2705

Tim Phillips received Jesus into his heart the day before Easter at age 4 (during his 5th year of life) in 1975. He immediately began preaching in his home as play church. In 1984 he became serious as the Lord revealed to him during a sermon, ...not to just tell people what they are doing wrong, but to tell them ( through the Word) how to do right before God. This revelation caused him to develop the heart of a teacher. He became serious about his "garage church" trying to reach all neighbors within hearing distance. Week after week he taught encourage those who listened to serve God. Later, that year God spoke to him in several dreams confirming his call to preach. In 1986 Tim Phillips began preaching at the church that his family attended. Then, in 1988 he was licensed to preach officially. He has preached and studied the word of God for over 26 years. He has done one-on-one counseling and spiritual guidance during this same period. Recently, he was prompted to launch this site to teach and encourage people to consider their eternal future. Eternality is at hand, some of us are only a breath away. Jesus stands with His arms outstretched ready save you from a future in Hell.
